Inspirations & Lyrics from Blooming, LANDOKMAI
Blooming is a project that transforms the Thai love song “Blooming” or “The First Love Song” in Thai, from LANDOKMAI, into sweet packaging designs. The song captures the dreamy sweetness of first love, and I reimagined that emotion through products like ice cream, candy, and chocolate bars. The design places part of the lyrics on the front of the packaging, such as ice cream lids or candy wrappers, creating curiosity. The full lyrics are hidden inside, revealed only when the packaging is opened. This approach ties into the audience's behaviour—you must open the packaging to taste and enjoy the sweetness inside. The lyrics on the outside present only part of the story, leaving room for personal imagination about the taste and meaning and connects the emotional story of the song with the physical act of enjoying a treat.
By shifting the lyrics from auditory and textual forms into visual and physical ones, the packaging emphasized the song’s emotional meaning. Lyrics that might be overlooked in the music video were highlighted when placed on tangible objects, giving them a new dimension.
The packaging expanded the audience from song listeners to sweet product consumers, who may or may not be familiar with the song. Fans of the band could view the packaging as a collectible, strengthening their connection to the music. Additionally, lyrics on packaging gained commercial and functional value, aligning with the sweetness of sugary treats and enhancing the song’s meaning. These designs turned candy into more than a treat—they became symbolic gestures perfect for sharing, with the packaging itself acting as a storytelling device.
Packaging also created expectations about flavour—whether sweet, creamy, or fruity—linking the song’s emotional tone to personal memories or love experiences. Making the experience of the song more tangible, play with another sense from hearing to tasting. It also connects with consumer behaviour, the act of consuming sweet happen when unwrap the packaging — open to see the remaining lyrics
— Sketch & Visual Explorations
Initially, I considered the music video as a primary medium but found has many elements involved, such as the visuals, lyrics, and sound. Instead, I focused on the lyrics, as they are a simple yet powerful way to convey the song’s meaning. I experimented with other media, such as lyric books and flower bouquets, before deciding on sweet packaging. The lyrics on the packaging create a deeper connection, as the audience interacts with the product to uncover the full narrative, blending sensory and emotional engagement.
