Untie the Corset, my senior project for my bachelor degree in the Department of Industrial Design, Faculty of Architecture, Chulalongkorn University. It’s about Bridgerton, the Netflix popular series, a melodrama story that described the life of the British aristocratic society in the Regency era. Everyone who watched this series said in unison that they felt the stories were so “Exquisite”.

This project aim to bring the memories of series’ fans and bold them into a tangible things. It also help to attract fans’ attention before the season 2 will be launched. These approached by create interaction between series and audiences through tangible book and exquisite printing techniques which look like bring the series to real life.

To start with research process, I start with learning how audiences perceived the series core idea and how they feel before, during, and after watching the series. This was conducted to understand what they need and what the book could serve their desire. It also help to divided the chapter based on what audiences value this series. I also analyse every single elements in the set, tone of characters’ voices, how they dress, why they wear that color or why they hold that flowers. The meaningful elements that was hidden in the series was illustrated in this projects to told more about them. I also add the regency era main exquisite elements to connect the past and modern day, such as using paper dolls to let the readers have a chance to dress up our lead actress.

The cover of this playbook was inspired from Lady Whistledown’s silhouette, a symbol that represent the gossip papers in the series—main elements that lead the characters’ action. This silhouette was reflected and show a negative space in the middle, represent “Wedgewood”, a ceramic that well known in regency era.

The playbook also use printing techniques that enhance target audiences’ experiences. For example, 3d paper folding, inserting balls invitation cards, inserting real gossip papers, or allowing readers to pull the fabric pattern from the modiste—a tailor shop in the series.
